Why there's no such thing as sex addiction

I’ve worked as a psychologist, treating issues of
sexuality in my clinical practice, in several states in the American south
west. I’ve seen scores of patients who have what most people would consider
to be a highly active sex life, but I haven’t diagnosed anyone, ever, as
being “addicted” to sex. I’ve publicly challenged the validity of sex
addiction, and this has brought me trouble. I’ve been accused of being
“evil”, “dangerous” and “heartless”.

This was an interesting read. He tries to take away the myth of sex addiction and not let people make excuses for their behavior. Some of what he states will make you think. This is were he is coming from" I invite them to see their sexuality as something that is in their control, just like any other aspect of their life."

I think it is in our control, but as he points out:

But sex is not a disease. In fact, it’s good for you. Research shows that men who have more sex live longer. Women who have more sex don’t live longer, but those who enjoy sex more do live longer (and apparently more enjoyable) lives. The more sex people have, the fewer days they take off from work. When sex is called a disease and too much is labelled as dangerous, it takes away a healthy part of life.

Also, I was reading much the same thing in a few articles in Psych times, and Psych today (I should have seeded them).

cried, I like the fact he doesn't allow people to use their sex drive as an excuse or an illness. Keeps folks accountable. I was so grateful to find this seed as now I know it's not a disease, I'm just healthy. whew!

If it were a disease, most people would have it.

Just another victimization of someone who cannot control their actions is what the sex "addiction" label is. Everything now seems to be a clinical term of a medical issue of some kind.
